A while back I felt God drawing me to read through the gospels with a “new set of eyes.” I felt that He wanted me to see and understand the accounts and statements of Jesus in a much more literal sense. He wanted me to truly take Him at His word and believe what has been written. This may sound like common sense to some, but for me it was revolutionary. I realized that so often I project my own limited understanding and perspective into the promises found in the word of God. By doing this, I rob myself of the power relating to these truths.

As I began taking a closer look at the gospels, something began to really stand out to me. I noticed that most of the time when Jesus taught or preached, He would accompany those words with supernatural demonstrations of power. Not only did Christ operate in teaching accompanied by power, He commanded His followers to do the same. This is not optional Christianity, but is God’s design and model for us to follow. We will be most successful in our evangelistic efforts when we learn to couple the supernatural power of God with the preaching of the truth.
