We were not created to be average or mediocre. We have been summoned by God and empowered by His Spirit to step out of the crowd and be counted among the brave. We must refuse to hide among the riskless, mindless, zombielike flock. We must put on the mind of Christ and expose the world to the supernatural wisdom of the ages—wisdom that stuns the intelligent, silences the critics and transforms our cities and nations

God desires for you to understand your calling even more than you desire to know it for yourself. He is a faithful Father, and as you seek His face, He will begin to pour desires into your heart. These holy longings will eventually guide you toward your life vision.

For a portion of my life, I promoted discipleship but felt that involving the “church” in that process often muddied the waters. What I have now come to see is that discipleship only happens in the context of the church. Before you argue that you have witnessed plenty of successful discipleship endeavors outside of the church’s four walls, let me explain what I mean (and what the Bible says) about the church.

Jesus did not shy away from preaching both the glories and the pains of choosing to follow Him, and neither should we. Christ was clear about the troubles that lay ahead for the disciples and warned them to count the cost of what they would endure before following Him.

Our present existence is the only time that is real. The past is lost, the future is not guaranteed, but living in the present will be the only way to truly make a difference in this life. Every moment is the best moment to release the love of God and begin our journey to change the course of history.

Serving the Lord does further my relationship with Him, but only to the extent that my serving is accompanied by intimate fellowship with Him. To merely spend time serving Him without spending time with Him is a recipe for a cold heart.

Detaching from the world is how God began Christ’s ministry to change the world! If Christ’s life were filled with times of getting alone to connect with the Father, it would be wise for us to do likewise. Though we can abide in Christ amid all our daily activities, there is a call on each of us to get alone with God regularly. In these times of detaching from the world, we can focus differently on the Lord and allow the Holy Spirit to accomplish His work in us.

It is critical for us to diligently search God’s word to discover His criteria for having an effective life.  The approval of man is temporary and will one day mean nothing. God’s approval is eternal, and living for Him alone is the only way to be successful in this life and the next. 

The world is filled with men and women deceiving the flock for their own personal gain. Paul the apostle outlines a biblical response to false teachers and preachers in Galatians 1:6-10. It is never our responsibility to try and make someone be a better person. Our primary assignment is to point lost and broken people to the Savior. One of the largest blunders I have witnessed Christians make is forcing people to follow God’s word without first being infused with His Spirit. This approach will never work.

Worldly comfort is one of the greatest limiters of true revival. It is also one of the primary culprits of the saint’s eternal blessings. Satan has deceived many to believe that God’s desire for us is to have a cozy, pain-free existence. Because we believe this lie, we despise any thoughts of suffering for His name’s sake (Philippians 1:29).

The transgressions you commit and your identity in Christ are incompatible. Unfortunately, the way many of us identify ourselves with sin is simply unbiblical. Without a proper understanding of our justification (our righteous legal standing in the sight of God), we remain hindered in our personal sanctification (the ongoing process of becoming more like Christ).

God is not impressed with our fancy buildings and large service attendance.  God is impressed with the man or woman who has fully surrendered their life for the gospel.  God can do far more with 50 dedicated saints than He can with 5,000 ambivalent church-goers.

We have been trying to force a groundbreaking generation of people into a traditional discipleship system for far too long. Are you willing to let go of tradition in pursuit of transformation? Many future disciples will require a new wineskin model of discipleship to experience the growth available to them in Christ.

How do you know if you are making responsible or irresponsible decisions in life? What do you do when God leads you out of the comforts of your current season but has yet to show you the details of what comes next? Why doesn’t God just come down and verbally instruct us on what we are to do in every area of life?

Jesus put His trust in the Spirit’s ability to use a small group of devoted followers to change the world. How could this be possible? The answer … MULTIPLICATION! Jesus understood the immense power of training disciples who would make disciples who would go on to make even more disciples. This is how Jesus always has and will continue to use His church to fulfill the Great Commission.

In its broadest sense, discipleship is anything that leads people to become more like Jesus. This definition breaks the box of limiting discipleship to merely a church program or Bible study. We are all active in the process of discipleship; most of us just don’t think of it as such.
