The most important reason that God has given us the Bible is not for its historical benefit, but rather because of its transformative power. We do not read the Word of God merely for the antiquated knowledge we can derive from it. This is an amazing benefit to studying the Word of God, but knowledge of the Bible is not the end goal. Properly understanding God’s Word is progress towards our true priority of transformation. Our goal is to be so immersed in the Word of God that we end up actually becoming the living word. Have you ever heard the phrase “You are the only Bible that some people will ever read?” We must become so transformed internally through our constant attention on the Word that it “oozes” out of us as a display of God’s love to the world. We are commissioned to be the living word to a world that would otherwise not have encountered the love of God.
