Steering Clear of the Cautious Charismatic Approach to Public Ministry

4 minutes | Jul 5, 2022

The cautious charismatic camp believes that the gifts of the Spirit are for today but do not operate in the gifts of the Spirit in certain ministry settings. Oftentimes, the cautious charismatic community will function in the gifts of the Spirit in their personal walk, one-on-one ministry with believers or in a small group setting of like-minded Christians. Normally this camp avoids moving in the miraculous gifts of the Spirit or attempts to limit the use of these gifts in the corporate worship setting or in interaction with non-believers. They fear that the gifts of the Spirit may offend or “scare away” non-believers. Because of that, they largely avoid operating in the supernatural when people are present that are not familiar with the miraculous gifts. Jesus operated in the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit in all ministry settings. He moved in the supernatural among Jews, Gentiles, one-on-one ministry, small groups, corporate settings, people who believed His message, and people who discredited His message.
