The Value of the Apostles Teachings in the Early Church
Acts 2:42

The word apostle refers to a special and specific leader in the church. It was one of the five offices mentioned in the five-fold ministry described in Ephesian 4:11 (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, teacher). In two passages in 2 Peter 3 we see reference to the fact that some of the apostles teaching (that which was recorded in the Bible) was in fact the word of God and should be considered canonical. I believe that one of the primary roles of an apostle is to use the inspired word of God to lead and direct the church. When an apostle teaches, I believe that a heightened level of consideration should be given to his words, not because of who he is, but because of the position that God has given him. It has not so much to do with his stature, but with his divine assignment and role as an apostle. Still, each and every word spoken must be tested against the written word of God.
